Ok so it's all good then, cheers guys.
What i meant by my comment was that im very unlikely to do 15,000km in the space of 12 months. I only drive the car a few times a week as i walk to work (its very close to home). Ive only done 6,000km in 8 months of owning the car.
So i will do 1x DIY oil change in between each logbook service - at the 6 month marker (or 5,000km if i ever do that many kms). I have always over service my cars.....im a servicing nut.

I'm up to 5,000km and would like to change out the first batch of oil.
Is there any difference between other oil brands (VW approved of course) to Mobil 1 - it seems to be the most expensive by a long shot.
Just want to clarify if the following pic I have highlighted the right bolt for the sump plug?

Does changing oil and filter yourself have any warranty issues?
warranty book says genuine parts & suitably qualified person. You could draw a pretty long bow with "suitably qualified".

So i guess, as long as you order the filetr and oil from VW, then it should be okay...
Just the filter will do. Oil should be 504.00/507.00 approved.
I have no idea what your experience or qualifications are. I got trained as a mechanic 33 years ago but haven't swung a spanner for money in 20+ years but they'd classify me as "suitably qualified" which is quite funny.
For what it costs (30-45mins labour), get an independant mech to do it for you
