Slightly off-topic - but can you let me know which iPod cradle you use? I'm considering getting one.
Hi all,
New Mk6 GTI owner here.
I've got an ipod cradle with a line out which charges from the cigarette lighter under the front center controls.
I want to run an audio cable into the aux-in in the armrest.
I've seen people pop out the buttons near the ESP/ACC controls and run a cord under the centre console (in mk5 threads), but there's no easy way to pop the cord out into the Mk6 armrest again!
Anyone have any ideas or know how to do this in a Mk6 GTI?
I prefer the ipod controls to the MDI, hence this wasn't an option I ticked.

I use a DLO Transdock. It's not cheap but I got it for its strong FM transmission which turned out to be bullocks. It's got a video/audio out socket and a USB output as well to charge other devices though, so it's handy even now I don't need the FM function.

Thanks Much appreciated.
I am very interested in what outcome you get. Please post your solution
How do you fit that dock into the 12v output socket (cigarette lighter).. ? Perhaps the placement is different in a MKVI but in my MKV the output is horizontal at the bottom of the dashboard (have to open a flap to access it)...
A cradle that is expecting to be plugged in vertically wouldn't fit in there...
the transdock comes with two arm hinges that bend 85 to 180 degrees. You can hook them both up or use one only. They both clip to the back of the dock itself. I have mine bent at 100 degrees so it sticks up and out allowing the dock to sit just below the air controls in my jetta, tilted up a tiny bit.

Here are two options to consider.
1) If your were to remove the screw cover [4] you could plug an audio extension cable straight in to Aux-In andf thread said cable through the gap into the console frontwards to wherever you chose to access it.
or
2) You could remove the Aux-In [2] see what connector is on the back of it. You could then perhaps run a fork off it frontwards, or perhaps an extension to the existin cable and relocate Aux-In [2] frontwards which might be neater.
Digressing slightly. If I leave my AUX cable plugged into the console jack but no device on it, VagCom flags an intermittent diagnostic "AuxIN - short to ground" fault. No doubt as the loose end of the cable floats around the console banging into stuff. Clever stuff hey. So I no longer leave it connected when not in use.

Thanks for that mate, very helpful. I will give it a crack. Not entirely sure how I would run the cord all the way forward and grab it at the other end. It would involve popping out those buttons near the ESP switch.
Any ideas?
