Hi Guys,
I had my GTI's Radiator replaced under warranty about a year ago, and ever since have had high engine oil temps.
They are between 105 and 110 degrees regardless of ambient temp and driving conditions.
Before the radiator replacement, they used to hover between 96 and 103 ( Summer and High Traffic ).
Whenever I turn the car off, the fans will kick in and run for a while, which is also a bit odd. If they did kick in before, it was over pretty quickly. Now they run for several minutes.
Not sure why it would rise like this with just a radiator replacement. Have had it checked out by my usual mechanic and VW when it goes for work, but nothing is found.
I am only assuming it is the radiator, because I never had the issue before it went in for the replacement.
Just think its a bit high for normal day to day driving.
Has anyone else had high temps like this?
Thanks

In heavy stop-start traffic summer traffic I see temps between 103-106, and this has been consistent since new (2009)

mine sits at 105 most of the time.... a few degrees more shouldnt be of concern
is it possible maybe you're running a different brand or viscosity oil which is causing a slightly higher reading?

Tiguan R
I've had my at 118.
So long as below 130, she'll be right.
I've noticed in the past fresh oil brings averages down, then 3000-4000km in averages rise.
Thanks all for the replies.
The radiator was leaking from the top passenger side. VW did the replacement under warranty.
I have the car serviced at my usual mechanics, and the oils have not changed.
It is just weird that it would vary so much. The car loses power, and becomes really sluggish, like heat soak when it gets to 105 and above.
I would assume that VW use the radiator as an oil cooler for the DSG too ... maybe.
Cruising at highway speeds the temp will sit between 105 - 107, and would of assumed the increased airflow would lower the temps, but not until you slow down.
I almost feel like VW might of put something in the coolant to close the leak, rather than replace the radiator.... who knows.
