I think that is one of the best justifications I have heard for picking the R over the GTI ....

    - will have to check the xenons to see the difference, but yes I did mean would you sell one because it didn't have them as opposed to are they a worthwhile option, which I believe is another thread somewhere.

Completely agree with Corey_R and Rexman – Once you have owned a car with xenons, you will NEVER buy a car without.

The difference in clarity and effectiveness is huge imo.

Now when I drive a car with halogens, it’s like there’s a candle on the bonnet lighting the way! lol

Yep, I share the same sentiment. My Clio 182 had em, and there is no way I'd get another car without em, and I would not buy an otherwise perfect car if it didn't have them.

Not sure how far I would go if my car did not have them by mistake, but I would be seriously unhappy and would not ever be able to warm to the car, I probably would even think of selling early as possible too if I could not get a decent retrofit done.

I drive cars with Xenons semi-regularly (including a Passat CC with the cornering bi-xenons), but decided against them for my car in the end. I like the improved lighting but don't consider it particularly necessary on the brightly-lit city streets I'm usually driving. I love the quality of light on darker country roads, but actually prefer the appearance of the halogen cluster (although I'm sure I'm in the minority here). And of course I don't like the price. So... I passed. Don't regret it either - the halogens do me fine for my use-case, and I do know what I'm missing.

    Ditto Adam.
If most of your driving is around town, you don't really need Xenons. If you think you do, try some +50 globes. You could just about change them monthly for the life of the car and it would still be ahead financially.

Having just driven from Sydney to Bourke to Broken Hill and back to Sydney I had no issues with the standard Halogens.

A hint for people; turn your dash lights down to the lowest possible level (which is still too bright in a Golf) to reduce the contrast between internal and external light at night.
If you dig a hole and it is in the wrong place, digging it deeper isn't going to help.

I agree that when purchased as an option they're quite exy, but when they come standard, like my previous two vehicles, I guess you just come to expect that higher quality light.

Also, I'm going blind so the more light I have in front of me the better.....for all of you!

Come to think of it....that's just one of many reasons I ended up purchasing the R over the GTI

I think this thread has had it now....

But I'm not sure I'd sell a GTI just because I didn't get them.
But then, I'm also not sure how you could confuse the standard headlights and Xenon. It's not like they look even REMOTELY similar!

If I had done my homework, then yes, I would have spot the difference, alas I didn't, my old car sold within days, way too much quicker than what I expected - I was taken by surprise considering the average time it takes to sell it in an overstocked JDM grey import market with no local dealer support is usually 3-4 months with lots of time wasting tyre kickers, so I was scrambling around finding a GTI in the country and stupidly assuming all GTI has xenon standard due to the bumper tab... my big mistake.

Usually on other cars, eg. Alfa, Audi, BMW if no bumper tab = no xenons. they only put bumper tabs when there is xenon.
WHo would have thought VW put a bumper tab in there regardless whether there's a headlight washer jet behind it (for xenon) or not?

Yeah, well more telling here is that Rexman might have considered a Honda Type R just because of the headlights.... things that make you go hmmmm.

GTI and GTD have these tabs/blanking covers if they don't have the headlamp washers which is only available with the winter pack in the UK.
