GTI APR Stage 1 vs Scirocco R

Please direct me to the relevant thread if this has already be discussed/started.

I'm interested to hear your thoughts on how different or what differences there is in handling and perfomance between the two given that power would be similar and the Scirocco R just a fractional wider at the wheelbase and lighter (9kg).
    Is this a fair comparison?
Throw in the GTI OEM Eibach linear springs for good measure.

    Edited:
Maybe I should further clarify/elaborate the thought behind my comparison.

Own APR Stage 1 GTI. I would think that, with the extra torque of 50nm+, the APR tuned must still be quicker (if not stronger in the mid range). At the end of the day, torque is more vital in the bottom to mid range.

I have driven a number of stock std Rs and they don't seem to be as strong down low.....

The R, especially in DSG form is very decieving, the AWD has a tendancy to "hide' the torque as opposed to the FWD. I would suggest unless the comparison that is being requested is undertaken it is a difficult one to answer

Golf looks better (imo) and is more practical, sounds great, and is faster than other people may expect for a hatchback.

Scirroco stands out and might gain you a couple more stares if you're into that sort-of thing. Haven't seen once on the road yet (only at last years Melbourne Auto show, in that awful lime green colour).

As a daily, the Golf would feel faster - certainly with the extra torque and copious amounts of wheelspin available on demand. It'd feel more alive and urgent, and possibly more of a handful. At high revs the Scirocco would be as quick, and at very high speeds the greater capacity of the K04 would allow it to pull ahead. At the traffic light GP it'd be down to whomever got the better launch and managed their wheelspin better.

On the track and in the twisties, it'd be the Scirocco (at least with the GTI on standard springs) - the wider track and firmer springs/ACC would take care of that I'd expect.

The two cars are close enough in most respects that the differences would be no greater than those between a good and a merely average driver.

I love the Scirocco R's road holding abilities - ACC on sport mode is fantastic. Additionally, the look in person and low driving position are great. It definitely feels like something special and not just a cheapo-TT or pimped up Golf.

Interior-wise, it's nicely put together and looks good. However, still feels like a mish-mash of Mk5 and Mk6 golf that has been slightly enhanced - not a bad thing mind you.

In terms of power, it's very similar to my APR stage 2 GTI but I still think my car feels a little quicker. When pushed hard, the Scirocco did seem to get onto the power more easily than my GTI but in-gear acceleration felt a little slower than my GTI. Bottom line is that this is a fast car.

The standard exhaust also sounds great - I would only bother with a downpipe upgrade if I had one.

For laughs, I put my GTI back onto the stock program and it felt 'slow'.

Overall, it's a fun car to drive and is definitely a real head turner.

Just spent a week in the coastal areas of victoria and had to be satisfied with 95 ron instead of its normal diet .

To me there appears to be no difference in the power delivery between 95 and 98 , my APR dealer advised 98 diet only , is this a myth ?

Most impressed with the surging power , although a little twitchy in the lower gears , thing just pulls like a train right up to its limit , economy good and seats that just feel so comfortable .
