That's what I think - 5dr much easier to sell.

I like the look of the 3 door but does look like it's for youngsters a bit.

Agree that 3dr would be better for the track having a stronger shell, that way doors don't get out of alignment etc as the build quality still isn't real solid. Mk6 are too nice to mod or track anyway.

There's no right or wrong but I go for 5dr as they look almost as good and more practical. 3dr is ok too but you'd have to sell it if you had kids etc.

    Also the mk4 R32 3 dr looks a lot tough than the mk5 3dr.
Erm, they made 5 door Golfs before they made the GTI.

5 doors are an affront to the GTI name.

I know quiet a few car wholesalers and dealers and they all tell me that come selling time, you will lose a lot more than you saved getting a 3 door instead of a 5 door.

It will take longer to sell and yes, some will get a bit of a premium if the right buyer comes along but on average, you will be disappointed.
I would agree that a 5dr would be easier to sell compared to a 3dr, simple market observation will tell you that. The ratio of 5dr to 3dr sales is something like 9 to 1 in favour of the 5dr I think.

But, that's the burden I have to carry for being a purist slave, haha.

Ive had an offer of 33k on my 3 door GTI which is 2k above market value. Told the guy to come see me when he has 35k to play with. To be honest I dont really want to sell the car but if someone wants a 3 door manual with xenons and leather and are willing to pay my price then id let it go.
Good luck finding another one cheaper. Good luck finding another one at all

    Oh...

I guess not everyone is as oldschool or pure.

Ps. Still love the idea of an oldschool MK1, are you going to collect the whole set ?

I agree Tim, all subject to finding the right buyer and what people are willing to pay!!

    Or anal!

Not sure about the whole set. Wouldn't mind a Mk6, but Mk2s/3s don't do it for me as much. There's just something so right about the Mk1 shape that makes me go weak at the knees (figuratively speaking).
