Golf R wont start (SOLVED: Flat battery)

    Help !

Just went to start the car and it just "ticks" over without starting

i get the following errors on the screen:

    1. "move selector lever to position p\n"
    2. a ping noise and "error: esp"

the car is in P, it does the same in N

Prior to this i have had no technical faults

car is a 2011 golf r dsg with approx 40,000km's

    please help !

let it sit for an hour and tried again with no luck

im not 100% sure if its the battery as all the lights come on fine

it has turned over a bit "slowly" recently compared to normal - could it just be a dead battery ?

Yep a new battery is what you need.
The ticking is from the relays, the coil loads up and activate the armature but the battery cannot sustain the load as the starter is engaged, and the circuits open again. You hear a click as the contacts meet, this repeats very quickly.

'tis the season for new batteries.

As it gets cooler, the battery performance drops off. If it was marginal before then it won't have the grunt to start now.

Check the manufacture date on your battery. If you've got a 2011 car likely the battery was manufactured in 2010 so it's about the expected life of these types of things (4 years), though you'd always like it to last longer.

    thanks guys

i was more worried about the errors it was throwing !

i put it on a battery charger and it has started

but ill definitly go by a new one today as i dont want to risk this happening when im away from home

any recomendations on whats good for a golf r ?

also, if its still under warranty, would the dealership replace this ?

Good news that you got your car started.

I don't think batteries are covered under the 3 year new car warranty. Likely only 12 months which I think is standard for the electrical equipment/accessories.

Batteries are indeed covered under the 3 year warranty. If you call vw 24 h assist and they determine the battery needs replacing they will do it for on the spot. The new battery will have a 3 year warranty through the roadside assist company, in my case allianz.
