Given that this isn't an Audi forum so I will risk it, why did you (and Brimway for that matter) choose a VW over an Audi? Sounds like you both have an affection for the product, yet chose something else. I have nothing against Audi, but the price simply means that for the money brand new, BMW/Mercedes offer a better product (IMO and most car magazines around the world) and much higher resale values (used car market has clearly spoken on that one, which no one can deny based on the far reaching evidence across the range), while VW offer better value for essentially the same product. I think every VW owner here would agree, or else they would have bought an Audi, or at least, buy a USED Audi for a NEW VW price. Which was my rhetoric all along.

A true enthusiast doesn't drive a golf either.

It is a compromise. Jack of all trades. Master of none.

Simple answer ..... value for money.

If I had more money it would have been an Audi for me.

So, Brimway is on the money, pardon the pun.

BMW have terrible paint quality, are ugly in almost every model and no AWD to speak of plus they scream "look at me". No decent looking hatch

Merc, well, looks suck, no decent looking AWD hatch. If the new hatch from AMG looked better and came in at the right price I'd go for it but optioned up, as usual with Merc, it will be stupidly pricey

As for APR, would never consider it for a tune for many reasons.

For me (I'm also an AWD fan) AWD is a great active safety feature as well as a performance feature. It's a grip and go no fuss system. RWD is fun don't get me wrong BUT it will never be as quick unless in the hands of a racing driver, from what I've seen.

Plus AWD can powerslide as well if that's why you want a RWD haha

AWD hatches are not the be all and end all of the motoring world you know.... Otherwise, BMW and Merc have Audi licked in every other department - small sporty sedans, convertibles, SUVs, medium and large luxo sedans, sports cars etc.

And Audi's do scream look at me in a way that BMWs do. Which is why people pay a premium new for it - a BMW price.

I used to think that, but to quote you, "for everyday driving" imo awd is perfect!
