When it comes to the inexperienced ... the Golf GTI is better.
When it comes to the experienced ... the twins BRZ/FT86 are better.
What about an old exotic (M3) ... slower is better.

Interesting comparison, a mixture of objectivity and subjectivity. Would have been more interesting had they thrown a Golf R into the mix.

The latest EVO Magazine says that the Golf GTI with Haldex LSD Power-Pack feels more like an AWD Golf R at high speed, rather than low speed. The same Haldex eletro-mechanical LSD can be adopted to the Golf R and tuned so as the Mark 7 Golf R can exhibit a greater amount of oversteer in certain situations/speeds.
