Interesting point regarding the limited slip diff- sounds like its bridged part of the gap to the handling of the AWD R....refer below

The man involves himself in the life of his neighbours who take 2 years to make a decision, then put a deposit on a car, then change their mine and buy the dealer a fruit basket for their troubles.

Obvious, even rational, doesn't enter into it.

That said, I like his suspension analysis stuff.

You guys need to get your facts straight ... Ray has bought two Golfs (R and demo GTI just recently) and rescinded on both purchases. But he is waiting for the Mark 7 GTI and R to arrive before next purchase. Over 6 years with an R32 is a long time (and lots in maintenance costs).

What is interesting to see is that the haldex electro-mechanical LSD on the Power-Pack GTI gives the driver the ability to specify the speed and abruptness of the haldex LSD plate lock-up. This appears to be done via the dashboard centre screen ... see pic re: front differential lock function:

Not so sure that a GTI can feel like an AWD with Haldex LSD Power-Pack ... that's what they also said about the MK6 Golf GTI with XDS re: AWD feeling. Having said that ... AWD's do understeer a bit around apex and on power-out. The GTI should give some rear end adjustability with less weight in the rear re: mid corner lift-off.

Took me 15mins to decide to buy a GTI, even when I hadn't test driven one!

Money was originally on a 6R CW 5dr Polo GTI worth $37k but for $5k more, I was offered a MK6 GTI which was on display.

Okay ... to be fair ... EVO Magazine ... the driver's mag ... has given the new Mark 7 Golf GTI Power-Pack with DCC a 4 star **** rated out of 5 stars:

Sounds like the new MQB chassis is a bit more composed than the MK6 chassis. Looks like the MK7 Golf GTI DSG 5 door with Power-Pack should be around 44K-45K on the road. With a couple of tasty options (Drivers Pack, DCC, ACC) perhaps 48K-50K. Wouldn't bother with the 19" wheels, although appears that they have to be bundled with DCC as a package. Apparently AUS release date for new GTI is September 2013.

Stop it you guys! You are making my side hurt and my eyes to water every time I read the new BS! Applying brakes to tame a FWD to be more like an AWD. That's just funny! It just makes the FWD behave better.
If you want AWD performance you need to buy the available R, if you want a fun FWD then you need to buy a current GTI. If you want to wait for the next version of anything you are welcome.
I'd rather drive a MK6 R now, because I'll probably be able to buy the MK8 R when my lease runs out and bag all those with a dodgy MK7 R.
