What do you mean by this WJ? The K04 turbo is also cast as part of the exhaust manifold in the same way that the K03 is.

Also, if they can get the new Golf R under 1400kg's then i think it will be quite amazing - but 1,200kg.....tell 'em there dreaming. Not even the GTi will come in at that weight - not with all the creature comforts, safety gadgets and electronics we demand these days.

The Golf R cab is lighter, definately, only FWD as well, does not really deserve an R badge but meh, Tiggies come with R badging as well from dealers.

There is an "R-Line" variant that we never got here.
This version has R styling but no performance (i.e. Passat CC R line) but i am not sure if it comes with R badges.

    1445kgs?

Okay ... given that the claim of 1200kgs was a bit ambitious ... how about 1445kg for the next MK7 Golf R as per Audi S3:

Drive - Audi S3 Sportback Revealed

VAG will finally put the old EA113 Mark 6 Golf R out to pasture in favour of the Mark 7 Golf GTI EA888 motor with max torque on tap from 1800rpm, making the next gen Golf R a more civilised drive.

VAG as patented a better way to bond aluminium to steel, so you may still see the Mark 7 Golf GTI with an aluminium roof, saving about 20-40kgs over than of the lesser standard Golfs.

    Cheers.

This would be a welcome improvement over the current engine/turbo capability.

I think the current Golf R is already way too civilised, geez, as a society I think we're becoming soft!
