Agree on the comments of neighbour Ray being too picky ... but this relates to his deicsion re: purchase of a new vehicle. Been around the world as to what make & type to purchase and decision keeps going around in circles & with lots of procrastinating.
Should clarify that the R32 would have been sold for 31.5K, but auction house did not call Ray on the day, so R32 did not sell. There were 5 x Golf's (many GTI's MKV and MK6) with all failing to sell on the day.
Auction house advised of reserve price, but market has shifted & reserve price was a bit ambitious on auction house's part.
To add further insult to failure to sell, someone knocked off Ray's brushed aluminium centre console bottle opener while R32 was on display at the prestige auction house. Another $80 expense.
30K sale price puts any Golf at the new Polo GTI price point.
I have no doubtsf about the sturdiness of Volkswagen hard metal running gear. It's the electronics & sensors that don't seem to go the distance that end up costing money in the longer run. Esp. if the sensors are difficult to get to in the case of AWD with extra labour expense.
The half backed dealer warranty necessitates a service every 6 mths & 10,000km to maintain any sort of half-baked warranty. That's at least $800 every six months on a R32 (probably Golf R too) according to Ray. Remember you have an extra too diffs to service. Volkswagen does really need to up the warranty to 5 years & 100,000km with fixed price servicing.
Cheers.
