    FWD -v- AWD

In respect to the best under 40K Car & Driver Magazine article, I think DCC in Sport would help any understeer issues with the GTI. Quality aftermarket suspension and suspension tuning would further improve the GTI if you're willing to compromise some ride comfort. Otherwise, the GTI does steer from the front as the article states as most of the weight is at the front end - not a lot of room for lift over oversteer in the GTI. It's rather a case of the XDS electronic diff dragging the car into the corner. Here's a video review of the new Sirocco R at the Stevio Pass in Italy:

I'm a bit bullish on this little number arriving in 2013:

Honda Civic Type R is back | News | Auto Express

This Honda appears to be like a five door Megane RS250, only with better resale value, greater no. of service centres, proven reputation and reliability, shorter & swifter gearchange, improved fuel consumption and probably less squeaks than the current crop of Volkswagen hatchbacks.

    Cheers.
    WJ

WJ i read your comparos before doing my back-to-back test drives, i have to say i agree with pretty much all your points. the gti felt dartier and lighter.

i just don't know if i would have been able to tolerate the drone and road noise though - at the same time it was hard to believe that the R was that much better insulated in all aspects of NVH. drove them on exactly the same roads, although i was going a fair bit faster in the R hehehe.

both great cars, standard R was the better drive for me and my style on the day. added ACC to my order for that little extra leeway

Mate, this conversation ha been had countless time and always ends up in the same place.. If you like the ride and feel of the GTI and believe that BFB is what makes your boat float then you are on a winner.

If however you like the ride and feel of the R and like the idea of sitting on top of the Golf food chain and like to hear all the comparisons then you made the right choice.. otherwise there is a great cartoon with a horse and a stick which sums it all up

i figured the whole point of this thread was to beat a dead horse? obviously it will never go anywhere which is why all the useless comments are collected here. the only useful comments are reports of real-world back-to-back test drives which future readers (who aren't aware the horse is dead 230 pages over) can possibly make some use of.

one question though: your sig says my11.5 - what determines the .5? my contract says build date 1/4/2011 so does that mean i'm my11.0? make is "VOLKSWAGEN 5K1RX7/11" if that means anything...

Just test drove the RS250 this arvo and gotta say that the handling is pretty decent indeed. The engine is also fast to spin up but it sounded like a tractor in the lower rev range... The interior is definitely not up to VW standards.
