Nope... the fact that the GTI is still available in both means the GTI has the prize in that area SilvrFoxX![]()

Sure people are complaining...
With the R32, around 1/4 of them were 3 doors from memory. With the R it is less, as there are more and more drivers from Japanese and Australia brands purchasing them and Australia is always about more is better. Whilst it's been discussed to death, I can say with 100% certainty that I would not own a 5 door Golf R. Which is why VW bought in the 3 door for a while![]()
My point isn't mute at all. BOTH should be available. They're not on the R. So the GTI is better as both are available - giving choice to the purchaser.
After having owned 3 door hatchbacks and 2 door coupes my entire driving life - i wanted to get rid of the big heavy doors and non-practical entry to the rear seats for any passengers.
That was my main reason for choosing the 5 door. And if i decide to start a family in a few years then the car will still be practical - whereas a 3 door wouldn't be.
Furthermore, my house has a relatively skinny driveway and garage so the smaller doors are much easier to live with on a daily basis - getting in and out etc.
