Corey do you pull out wiki's and useless facts when arguing with the missus? I reckon eventually it will be like an episiode of Chappelle's "When keepin it real goes wrong", make sure you youtube it!
Well ethosguy, no disrespect or anything, but unless you're actually Gordon Murray or something in real life, I suggest you have a look at who Chad Knaus is, cause I'm pretty sure he knows better than you
Having said that, you sure wouldn't want to be doing that in any normal car at all, and you sure wouldn't want to be doing that in even a race car unless you reaaaally knew what you were doing.

I wouldn't know the entire reason for not using the EA888 but I am of the opinion that due to some issues with the EA888 they decided to use the EA113 engine for these cars because it would cost less time and money to build them.
So basically VW really just wanted to increase their profile of golf cars in the shortest amount of time and at less cost. I think we all know that VW has major issues with their production lines rolling out the premium golf models in a reasonable time for certain markets. VW will go on to resolve the oil issues or whatever issues there are one would expect.
However having done 15000kms on my GTI, I would never go back to a less refined older engine.
If I had a choice between the GTI Ed 35 with EA113 motor and regular GTI with EA888 motor, I'd still take the regular GTI with the smaller turbo. Enquiries I've made so far is that the next gen MK7 Golf R will use the EA888 motor as the EA113 will be phased come MK7 update.
Cheers
WJ
It's sad when people cant admit that the GTI they purchased is not the best Golf, if you loved golf's so much why would you not buy the Golf R if you could afford it or if you cant, get the GTI Ed 35 which seems like a great little machine for the price. WJ I like your reviews but if someone had $50k to spend on a car I would always tell them to go for a standard Golf rather than GTI.
This logic is flawed, just because the r is more expensive, doesn't mean it's better for every car buyer. Using commodores as an example, would the grange be better for a bogan than say the gts? Both r commos, one is more than the other, both r similar yet different.
I bought the gti as I couldn't justify $15k. Was the r $15k better, like for like? Would the awd be beneficial for me, even tho its essentially a fwd biased car and the awd kicks In when I'm in trouble? Would the power difference be worth $15k when I can easily achieve that with stg2 tuning?
For me the answer was easy, gti was the better car for my needs.

** sigh ** and so it goes round.... all this noise and the answer is quite simple, if you can afford it ( this means it every sense ) everyone would buy the R. If not then the GTI is a perfectly capable unit which can command as much respect by owners and admirers alike.
I am yet to see anyone post, I bought a GTI cause the R is garbage and then spent the 10 - 15K difference ( if indeed that's what you believe it is) making it perform and look like an R
I tip my hat to the GTIs both new and old when I am out and about and still think they are a neat looking piece of kit. To be clear if the money issue was removed from the table and the keys to an R and a GTI were there for the taking there would be a race for the R keys. The same can be said for all the different car ranges not just VW.. it is human nature
Now back to appreciating both these great cars in whatever form they take
