Allright....enough of this GTi vs R rubbish. Each of us has our reasons why we chose whatever we chose - whether it be 3 door, 5 door, white, blue, red, a GTI or an R, DSG or manual etc etc.
If you want a real car, check out what i got to go for a drive in recently......absolutely fuc*ing hot piece of machinery.
Audi R8 V10 Spyder with the R-Tronic gearbox.....a mere $430,000 according to the price specifications tag in the glovebox. And for that money, you would think they would throw in sat nav and dynamic cornering lights....but they are extras!!!
This car was absolute porn. The blipping sound when you downshift is so obnoxiuosly loud and sounds fantastic.

The FWD -v- RWD debate may be never ending. A bit like the Mid-Engined Cayman -v- Rear-Engined 911 debate.
Here's a video by Car & Driver, USA that sheds some interesting light on Mid-Engine -v- Rear-Engine debacle with some suprising results ... although I didn't see the 911 driver lifting off the gas during those any of the turns:

Here's a review of the Golf R from Road & Track Magazine, USA.
The Golf R looks like hitting the USA market at a starting price of around 31K.
The GTI in the USA starting price is about 23K with 27K being a driveaway price with few or no options.
