    Horses for courses I guess...

Although in any car or SUV, the 3dr is always the "poorer" cousin of the 5dr equivalent.

Which is why pizza delivery cars and driving school cars are always 3dr - cos they are cheaper to buy!

The argument that a 3dr is more sporty is kinda moot - you want a sports car, get a proper one which was designed from the ground up as a sports car. This discussion is similar to those soccer mums who drive Beema X5s and Range Rover Sports who claim that their SUV handles like a sports car so their car is the best of both worlds.

At the end of the day, I can summarise this discussion by comparing to it to paying to see a Minogue but only getting Danni....

How often would a Golf R, or a GTI, or a Scirocco see any thing that resembles a dirt road, gravel driveways aside?

Once could be enough and when it saves you, it's worth it.

I dunno about you, but I have found my days of barreling down a unknown dirt road (in some unexpected circumstance, driving hard enough to be getting towards the dynamic limit of the car I am driving) are lurking deep in my teenage years....
