The same chippie who gets into his HSV ute on the weekend (no LCT) and tows his luxury speedboat (no LCT) to the coast?
Maybe we'd be better off taxing the 2nd, 3rd and so on cars along with truly luxury items like boats, helicopters and planes? But we're back at the same argument where someone doesn't own a car but has a boat or helicopter and why should they get taxed? The LCT should get the flick but it'll never happen under a labor government.

Yeah - the Henry Tax review called this out. Said that the LCT is at the same time hypocritical and ineffective and called for it to be scrapped... oh well... it's not like politicians to take advice their given...

But how much has the price of cars increased in the last 11 years? It seems to me that the base price of econo stuff has been sitting around $13,000 forever and stuff like the GTI or WRX has been around the $40,000 mark since they were released. So why would the luxury tax need to move? Car prices haven't moved with the CPI.

LOL that is how I see it as well. Now that I can afford the "luxury" bracket, I demand they piss off the tax.
Bad enough being unmarried with no kids and therefore being considered by the communist ****s running the country right now who think I'm "rich" so lets just rape them with all the taxes so 50% of the country can get handouts and have no ambition. <rant end>
Ouch! Yep, better off with the conservatives. If only they had been in power for ten years recently they would have revoked the tax!
Oh, hang on...they were!
All govts are too scared to remove this tax (read: can't afford to) And those "commies" shot down a proposed lib legislation about 6 years ago to raise the tax
Though there's a strong argument for raising the threshold now, Live with it...It's here to stay.
Now, back to the original thread...GTIs are for girls. Ha ha
Go figure.
