The Sirocco does run a wider track -v- Golf. The rear end on the Sirocco comes from the wider Passat, rather than the Golf. Looking at the video from 7.05 min to 7.35 min, you're clearly able to see that on the two left handers the Sirocco transitions from understeer to oversteer quite abruptly on the first turn with all the weight up front and bugger all weight in the rear end -v- Golf R that shows to be better balanced front to rear with extra weight of rear diff carrying mild understeer right way througout the corners. The Sirocco would be a greater challenge/harder work to tread that fine line around the race track in attempting to clock consistent times - slow in fast out would be way to go as in the case of anything with lots of weight up front. The Golf R with AWD seems to be more idiot-proof. The EDL/XDS probably does limit the track time of the Sirocco R in the slower corners.
Reckon the best upgrade for the Golf R is a set of aftermarket H&R solid adjustable anti-roll bars. Help counter the body roll in corners shown in the video, make better use of the tyres and reduce the understeer inherent in the Golf R chassis.
I'd take the Golf R over the Sirocco R for the sake of practically. If I was going for a two door coupe, I'd take the Renault Megane RS250 over the Sirocco R putting driver appeal first and lap times a distance second.
Cheers
