Scirocco is not a Golf GTI, true. It is a Golf GTI MKV with a sexier shell. Biiiiig difference
lol... either way, in this discussion of the Golf GTI vs Golf R, the Scirocco, just like any other car, has no factor
From what I have been reading the Scirocco IS based on the GTI platform (as we already know) however the finished product is far better behind the wheel. Stiffer suspension of course and much more feedback through the wheel.. doesn't the scirocco have wider track front and rear also; which would improve handling greatly. Receiving great reviews from journo's in europe, a much more focused 'drivers' car.
So, if the reviewers are right and the Scirocco is a better driver's car, despite being based on GTI MkV, does that mean a current GTI with a 188 kW tune is also a better drive than Golf R? Comparing white cars to neutralize R's blue superiority, of course.
Its not all about power, the main points I have heard reference to is the poise, steering feedback and reduction in understeer. It is set up with stiffer springs and sway bars compared to the MKVI GTI. It all depends if you want a chassis that is more playfull/adjustable (FWD)
Looks like Scirocco is faster than the all paws Golf around the track. Interesting video here.. Another proof that part time AWD is not exactly bees knees
In case you don't feel like watching the whole seven minutes, here's the conclusion:
