Satnav, Xennon's & leather have resale appeal I found when I was poking around.

Mine was at the cheaper end of the market. Smaller amount and less knowledge makes a car harder to sell imo

I bought the GTI purely due to 3 things.

    1. The wheels look better.
    2. Cheaper running costs of a FWD and AWD (having had past experience with AWD Subaru which nearly sent me bankrupt)
    3. I prefer the 2 red stripes on the grill

True SilvrFoxX - although if money were no object (but is it ever????), I would have a sprint blue Audi S3 sportback S Tronic in my driveway! Instead, the GTI will suffice for now

So let me get this straight, if money was no object, you'd get a GOLF R with an AUDI badge? Nice!

Completely disagree with this comment. My sister just sold her Corolla to buy a new Polo, and I must say I have never seen so much interest generated in one car being sold privately. It was incredible. 2004 model, listed for $11K - received about 3 calls a day for 3 weeks, and sold no probs.

Obviously, there are a TON of Corollas on the market and the competition was not issue cause the car is a good car and sought after.

The GTI, having about as amazing rep as you can get for a "sports" hatch, low relative cost of insurance and fuel, should have no such problems selling to an enthusiast market.

The analysis of the 2nd hand car market ignores the rule of thumb that if a car sold strongly when new to private buyers that there will be a big market of 2nd hand buyers for it. The "competition" in the market works both ways, for buyers and sellers.
