They are all good cars, can't believe everything you read on the interwebz.
Coincidentally, while having my dinner, a red Polo GTI rocked up and parked beside my Golf GTI. I wouldn't dare call tell the guy that the Polo is a girly car, he was quite big...no offense mate if you are reading this by the way I saw you and your partner checking out my GTI...and...we were in the same restaurant
Volkswagen Polo has also taken the carsguide.com.au 'Car of the Year' crown for 2010. See link:

Food for thought: Polo GTI is about 400kg lighter than the new Audi RS3.

Local review of the Polo GTI.
First Drive Volkswagen Polo GTI
I had reservations about the torsion beam (not-completely independent) rear suspension of both the Polo GTI and Megane RS250 not being able to cope with B-grade back-road bumps & thumbs versus the multi-link rear suspension in the Golf.
The Polo GTI's stiff, sporty suspension setup combined with its 17-inch alloys (the same as those on the Golf) proved a bit bumpy, with some road noise clearly evident. The front suspension coped better over bumps, while the torsion-beam rear suspension tended to thump, unable to deal with inconsistencies at each rear wheel.
Overall:
So far local reviews have not had the same criticism of the Megane RS250 Trophee's torsen-beam rear suspension on rougher B-grade outback roadways, which is surprising imo.So while the Polo GTI may not be as quick or powerful, nor quite as refined around town as its elder sibling, the Golf, but its aggressive yet lovable character makes it a real contender in the pocket-rocket bang-for-buck arena. And, while it's no Golf GTI, the Polo GTI is truly deserving of wearing those three prized letters.
Cheers
