So, everyone's entitled to their opinion, which is why I've not bagged out the essays on here before... but, I'm allowed mine too So, +1 on Fab_R's and HPSOV's comments... just getting painful now, even though I skip over most of it. Hands up how many people bought an R and wish they'd bought a GTI? <insert tumbleweeds & crickets> All these made up, subjective metrics, mean nothing to anyone but the person posting them. Whether you truely have GTI-love or R-envy, it's just painful now.

Simple solution, exactly what Corey said, get what YOU want...
    Its draining my life!!!!
I am seriously starting to think WJ is taking the piss out of us, and is "getting off" on it.

Nothing to do with this "fanboy" crap.

I dont need to justify my purchase at all, nor do i think anyone else who is contributing to this thread.
I am mostly seeing R bashers with the occasional appreciation for both GTi's & R, and now Gti Polo appreciation in a Golf forum!!!

Corey_R is it now worth closing this thread and to spare us more WJ pain and suffering????
Next thing that will be analysed will be the flux capacitor of the R & Gti and its operation.....

I've actually been thinking that for quite some time. And then to me it was confirmed when he started making comments about the Motor Tuning Challenge which directly conflicted with how the cars were actually set up, and then Guy and MACCAA came in and set him straight

Don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to an opinion. But some people seem to think that because someone writes essays on the subject, their opinion is somehow worth more than someone else who just says "I've driven both, and I like x model better".

Edit: And just to be clear, I'm not saying that WJ thinks his opinions are worth more than others...

The R does things the Gti can't. The R allows retard drivers like myself to drive hard & push boundaries with minimal risk. Trying to do the same in a FWD car would either result in tree wrappage or soiled underwear.

It's funny though, i see these particular threads the other way, not GTI love or R Envy, but R fanboy's trying to defend their purchase and putting down all other vehicles that come up as a competitor.

That's all i'll say on the matter or Corey will ban me for life.
At the risk of dignifying your Tig-love/R-envy with a response I bought the R because I wanted the best GOLF out there. True, I'd have been happy with a GTI at the right price point, but that price point was lower than any dealer would go to. As has been done to death a few pages back when we kicked Tigs out of this debate, a Tiguan is not a Golf no matter how many go fast bits you put on it, horses for courses.

Don't get me wrong, WJ clearly puts a lot of thought into his posts and some (not all) of it appears to be well researched. However, his information would be much better suited to a blog than flame-baiting in a thread about R vs GTI. We know where his (and everyone else in this thread) preferences lie, just seeing it ad-nauseu really is too much.

My vote is lock the thread, it's not going anywhere and there's no value in any of the new posts (including this one).

I thought this would be pretty simple. Anyone who doesn't think that the R isn't a significantly better car than the GTI is in serious denial. The only arguement could be is it worth the extra $9500. And some of us would pay double that premium just because it is 4wd.
