They don't get the 147TSI, they get the 125TSI. The engines are mechanically identical, with only the ECU being different. So the same ECU which goes onto the Golf GTI to take it from 155 to 188kw, goes onto both the 147TSI and 125TSI Tiguans to take them both toe 188kw.
Yeah great execpt it's driveaway price for my post code is $167,419.17.
Happens in every thread where the same couple people try to tell everyone they're crazy for paying more for the "same thing". But Big_Dave summed it up well IMO, hence why this thread isn't titled Tiguan vs R vs GTI....
V,
Now your just being pedantic.lol.

Heh, what a joke Redbook is they have a second hand 2010 R pricing at $42k - $46K
and a 2010 R32 priced at $46K - $50K,
Just goes to show their prices are not based on Market value but on depreciable percentage of new price.

I think that just did it for the R owners here.
You have to take into consideration that I was the very 1st person in Australia to order a Golf R ... 14 Feb 2009 in fact .....
I did so because I was after the ultimate VW available .... so the GTI was not even in the picture .... the Tiguan was always meant to be the family car and the R the toy to be enjoyed.
So when Austral VW messed my order up and did not deliver me the car I asked for I was lucky/unlucky enough to testdrive a R pre-launch and allowed to pick any of the 5 they did in fact get for the launch .... back to back with a Stage 2 Tiguan with suspension work that made more than 200kw .... and was bitterly dissapointed with the R. It was too mild for what I was after .... in fact no better from my perspective than the Tiguan. And you guys can make all the noises you want, untill you have actually driven a Stg 2 Tiguan with the works back to back with a R you just have no idea of the comparison.
So I re-evaluated what I was after and after some persuasion from my wife decided to change both the cars over time, with an even more family suited VW Van and an even better toy being a Porsche.
So as far as this thread goes, the GTI was not even on my radar and while the R was, it just did not meet up to my expectations.

Sharkie, I can understand the point you are making but a Tiguan and a GTI/R are different cars even if in a straight line the performance is the same (or better depending on mods). A Tiguan, wasn't ever on my radar, because I didn't want a SUV in any form.
If we ignore the $$$ a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and its top speed is 280 km/h, which makes this 4wd faster than many, many sports cars or sedans, but unless you want a SUV, it doesn't matter.
mk VI GTI, manual, reflex silver, basic
That's very well said.
I for example see the sports car as impractical for everyday driving in the city and could only have it as a second car for Sunday drive.
And Sharkie give up, everybody appreciate something else, you know it too, because you indirectly said that.
Plus we're all off topic!
So, Tiguans crew, let them discuss the difference between GTI and R in peace.
