I can afford to wait (long time) mate coz I've got huge holes in my pockets (both of 'em) now.
Jokes aside, do you think the MK7 R (if there is) will be utilizing the EA888 then? Maybe modifying the internals if there is scope (which I assume the engineers at VW would have to pull another bunny out of the hat)?

it will probably be a new engine with new transmission by then (eg 7spd dsg if they can get it bang on for extra performance) that may be a few years away given VW's track record of releasing new versions (hopefully a few years, ive just bought an MK6 so really dont want to see a new model coming out soon!)

anway moving on.... this thread isnt to discuss what may be, its to discuss what is

Actually EA888 + AWD + 7spd DSG is already available in the TSI Tiguans .....

And a simple catchcan with a drain back to the sump has solved APR's EA888 GTI's oil consumption issues ..... so the problem is not as bad as being made out here ...

So the MK7 R will likely within 2 years from today have both the EA888 + AWD + 7speed DSG (AWD & 600Nm rated as per the MY11 Tiguans) ....

If you have to install an aftermarket catch can, the problem isn't solved, it is a work around. The Tiguan wasn't designed for tearing round a race track anyway - it is softroader. Time to call a spade... a spade.

The problem is only solved when VW fixes the issue w/o the need of a catch can.

Nor are most GTI/R shoppers gonna be interested in a soccer mum soft roader!

Ah, yes, I realised that my comment could be taken that way but was too in a hurry to clarify. What I meant to say was new 2.0t drivetrain (meaning new in the model itself)...

VW is in the process of releasing a new version PCV valve to fix the problem. Will be able to be retrofitted to already delivered GTI's and TSI Tiguan's should the need arrise.

It really is only needed if you spend a lot of time at the track so 90%+ of GTI owners and 100% of Tiguan owners would not need it.

Not everybody wants to go to a racetrack, and all this talk about the track really is ridiculous. Very few Golf owners on this very forum actually do go to the track ....

So for I want to use our Tig in its current form for it does everything a stock R can do and everything better than even a chipped GTI can do .... you people really need to get to know the VW range and what each model can do better ....
As far as this thread goes .... IMO a R is better than a GTI in all aspects, but neither of them is better than our Tiguan for what I want from it .... .... and AWD hatch that can do 0-100 in less than 6s and have a lot more interior space than any Golf ....

I think you will unquestionably find, this is the difference between an R owner, and the owner of a soft roader family car.

Agreed, however, I'd be surprised if more than 10% of all R's sold in Australia will ever go to track ...... the people wanting to go to the track often, buy EVO's / STI's / Porsches .....

For that very reason I'm buying a Boxster S ..... I can be seen in it and I can track it unlike the R that I had on order that is really only suited to be seen in ....

Do a bit of research ... no magazine in the world that has tested the R in a comparison test anywhere in the world has rated it as a track weapon. To track it successfully you have to spend big like what APR has done with their R .... by which time it costs you the same as a 3 year old Boxster S .... no contest as far as I am concerned....

The R is the ultimate Golf from VW no question, but by no means is the best AWD hatch in the world ....
