EuroNCAP nor Australian NCAP have tested it.

But as I said - no race car driver has airbags - just their seat and restraints. They do much better in crashes than us lowly road drivers. Think about it
My original point was, it is highly presumptuous for journalists to make the claim that they know better than the automobile manufacturers and that it reduces safety, as there is no proof either way.

    I didn't order them, because I don't like them.

    Cheers.

As to why they do better in crashes than we do simply opens another can of worms, as I am sure you will agree. But that ain't for this thread

Totally 100% agree on your view re: the journalist though. It's just blatant stupidity and typical of Wheels magazine to get all high and mighty about safety without due evidence that the vehicle is inherently unsafe. Remember these are the jokers who rolled a Toyota Kluger doing 100km/h on a dirt road trying to corner and blamed it on the ESP of the Kluger, drawing the conclusion that it is one of the unsafest cars on sale today.. They still harp on about it today like some Jaded teenage prom date...

I drive a GTI and am more than happy with it. If i could have stretched my car allowance i would have preferred a golf r. Anyone suggesting a GTI is better than a R is a bit silly. It's l like an R driver saying they would prefer their car over a GT2.

Both good cars, be happy, regardless of what we drive there is always something better on the road.

Even more pointless because the answer to that is easy....they're both **** hehe.

I'll add this topic to the growing list of stuff that keeps me amused. They're golf's, why are people getting so outta control hehe

Whats the point in a GT2 anyway? Its an overly focused track car, and on Sydneys roads, I'll never get to really open her up and at 8 tenths, my Golf R keeps up anyway. And for the extra cost, It doesnt make sense to me. I just cant justify the extra cost when my Golf R is just so good. VW own Lamborghini, so I feel like im part of a bigger brand anyway.

You can see also with just the APR kit STG3 It can slam around wakefield. And the Porsche doesnt have much a rear boot, actually, it doesnt have a rear boot!

Another reason why my sports car (Hatch?) is even better for MY needs!

I could have bought the Porsche obviously, (obviously) but I just thought I'd save my coin, and (tea?) bag it instead.

**** reads like this just make this thread a bit off putting to any actual cool kids thinking of rolling with the VW brand tbh..

Like Matty83 said, there will always be something better on the road. Just like the R is over the GTI. Accept it and move on.

Just know that everytime I read that the GTI is better, I honestly, think your an absolute no questions asked, IDIOT. Get a life already.

You'd be waiting a while, the GT2's are sold out aren't they?

PS: My AWD GTI is better than yours hmm should probably get back to work...

Another reason why I bought the GOLF, I just could not get my hands on the GT2. My FWD GTI is better than your AWD GTI (and I have a RVC)

It just pisses me off that we are even talking about this dribble.

So I think it's settled. The R is better than the GTI. Journo's say it, one GTI owner has admitted it (how refreshing), and my arse preferred it. hahahaha Lock the thread now!!!!

That's true there is always something better around, you'll never have the best (or at least most people won't) so you're right - be happy with either. Just like an S3 and R8 are better, which they should be if you are spending more which is generally the case. Depends how good you need.

It's human nature to defend ones own decision in the face of others who chose the alternative. It sucks, and some need to harden the F up and get over it.

From the moment I joined this forum, I see people bagging Ford and Holden to no end. We have a 2010 FG XR6 Turbo Ute and an 09' FG FPV F6 Ute for our business (we need utes obviously). They are powerful, fast, and smooth to drive with the ZF 6 Speed auto. However I know all their downfalls in every other aspect of them, and no one is a bigger critic of them than myself, so I half agree. They are not better than a VW in any way shape or form, and I will not ever try to make out otherwise. I just agree that they are poor handlers, built to a budget, and move on. It's why I have always had hot hatches, because the utes serve only as my work cars, to and from work. Thats it.

VW made the R to be a better car than the GTI. It would be a pointless operation if it wasn't. After all, they dropped the VR6 engine because the consensus was that the GTI was a better handler and much more a fun car. I think its just a case of sour grapes for some because with the new 2.0T engine and 4motion it is the R's turn to shine over the GTI.
