jon that is the exact reason I stuck with my GTI order - the extra wait of 5+ months after waiting 5 months (to the day in fact) was enough.
yeah thats about right. the bi-xenon and 18" wheels come standard with the R. Not to mention you get the parking sensors and LED rear lights as wel for in that price. Unless his current signature doesn't include all the GTI specs.
I'm still deciding whether to give up my GTI order and get the R instead. But another 4-5 month wait is going to be painful, given that I have been waiting for 4 months (and still waiting) for my GTI.

By the time you wait another 5 months, you'll then start asking yourself whether you should wait for a Mk7.
BTW, does the R have smaller external mirrors than the GTI?

Am I right in saying that it seems like it is mostly GTI drivers going for the R at the moment? Are there any MK5 R32 drivers that have test driven one and are considering changing (sorry not strictly on topic)?
I've had the R32 for coming up to 3 years now and am thinking about a change (end of lease). Had a look at the GTI as well but love the look of the R and leaning that way at the moment. Having said that I haven't driven either yet and am not convinced I can give up the sound of the R32 at this stage! Gonna wait till the hype dies down a little and then go driving but just thought I see if there were any views from R32 drivers on the R and the MKVI GTI as well.
There are only two options listed there. The bi-xenons and the 18" rims. Both of those are standard on the R.
If a dealer could ge me a GTI with bi-xenons and 18's by end of eofys I would have taken that as I love the look of the carbon steel grey. I am not interested in leather, sunroof or audio upgrades. Seeing that is the case, and a base R offers all that, I am definately now in the market for an R, as for a small increase in price I can also get an upgraded engine, brakes, AWD, led tails (which I think alot of GTI owners will be upgrading to soon, I know I would have looked at that going down the GTI path).
Pity the R is not offered in carbon steel grey. I will just have have to settle for the blue, which I have loved really liked since the pics from the debut motor show.
