THE BEAST: "2015 Lapiz Blue Wolfsburg Golf R wagon"
We should rename this thread Golf R vs Anything on 4 Wheels and we'd still probably win.
MY11 Golf R - Rising Blue - 5DR - DSG - 19" Black OZ Ultralegerra - Leather - Sunroof - MDI - Euro Plates - Milltek Exhaust - Bluefin - SOLD
MY11 Tiguan 147 TSI - DSG - Pepper Grey - Black Leather - RVC - MDI - BT
I am more than happy to see the R out perform some sheet metal that is revered for its performance figures but I struggle with the idea that a $1500 spend can result in a better outcome than an $18K spend. Perhaps it is metric by which the comparison is being made.. 0-100 figures suggest a power to weight advantage held by the R.. what are the figures over the quarter mile..?
As that would tell you which car would see the other in the rear view mirror

Yeah, that's a mistake. They have the correct tyres listed in the specifications at the bottom of the article though.
I also noticed they said this:
This also seems to be a mistake. The front of the R sits around 15mm higher than the GTI. The R has 30mm more ground clearance than the GTI.
Not sure if any Golf R DSG with Stage 1 owners have had a chance to go to a dragway yet. 0 to 100km/h you can measure with a Performance GPS product on country roads or private roads legally.
Quarter Mile is different. The car would be up 180km/h mark meaning it cannot be done on public roads, and more than likely no one has a private road straight and long enough to also have room to slow down.
But it truly is amazing the difference a Stage 1 ECU does make SilvrFoxX. I urge you to experience it yourself as soon as possible after receiving your car and breaking it in
That being the case it seems to have made the previous arguements about the abilities of the R over a Typhoon somewhat moot..
I believe everyone when they talk to the experience of of a stage 1.. I think I will just enjoy it stock for a while to ensure it is all bed in properly and see how it goes down the track.. I fear that the smoothness of the DSG and its already amazing performance will get me into trouble.. a chip upgrade would potentailly make that more problematic
