Which marketing are you talking about? I didn't notice anything GTI or R related that says anything along those lines.

Only VW ad I recall recently was the Polo one on TV which was just plain stupid.

    Hahahaha, agreed.
I don't understand that ad at all, it's really stupid.

Haven't seen an advert for the Golf R.
Doesn't really need one since they are selling like hotcakes.

    .
Marketing isnt confined to what is in the broshure... Cars are tagetted at certain market segments, notwithstanding that there will be an attraction from other segments ( I think the Gruen folk called it the Halo effect)

From an interior perspective the presentation is more sedate and conservative which lends it self to an older audience..

Anyway lets not get distracted from the intent of the thread..

the main difference between the R and GTI in the interior was the red stitching
(and jacky seats, although many people opt for leather anyway)

I must admit, i kinda wish the R had red stitching like the GTi, it made the interior a little more special.
but then i'm 29 so perhaps this helps to backup SilvrFoxXs theory

Volkswagen Dealers in Australia have had customers not purchase the GTI after they've found out that they cannot get the car without the red stitching!

The Golf R would never have red stitching, as GTI is Red and R is Blue. They could have had blue stitching i guess, but then they'd have people not buying them because of the stitching again! I like the light grey stitching personally

I thought the theme on the R was black & Silver.. the Grill, the brake calipers, the wing mirrors etc etc

They could have come up with something a bit more exciting for the top of the line Golf/sports car, blue stitching would be alright. The R32 interior was nice with the silver carbon fiber look inserts but prob not that much in it..

Don't know how many customers would seriously not want the red stitching in the GTI lol.

ironic... considering the gearshift leather boot in GTI is leather with red stitching... then if the seats are optioned with leather but no red stitching - that's a bit disconnected styling is it?

unless when you option the leather seats they swap the boot leather stitching to black - anyone with leather can confirm this?
