    GTI PP -v- Audi S3 (Golf R)

Looks like this thread may morph into a MK7 Golf GTI -v- Golf R showdown. Here's the latest on what Car Magazine has to say re: GTI PP -v- Audi S3:

VW Golf GTI Performance Pack (2013) CAR review | Road Testing Reviews | Car Magazine Online

It's not all good for the GTI PP ... as suspected ... the GTI PP weighs in at 32kgs more than the standard GTI ... pretty much what a MK6 Golf GTI weighs in at ... so much for weight saving tech. Still ... GTI PP is 88kgs lighter than the Audi S3, which is bound to be about 30-40kgs lighter than the forthcoming MK7 Golf R.

Funny how similar this sounds to VI GTI vs R, isn't it? GTI having less power than S3 and FWD only while the Audi is 88kg heavier and AWD. The new R has to be damn good to justify its existence over a sorted out GTI with a mechanical LSD!

I still drop the coin on an R every time, be surprised if they offered a performance pack for the R because it comes off the production line ready to rumble.

The conversation has moved on because the competition has stepped up. The R now has to deal with the A45 and 135 not just the STI and EVO.

The GTI is now being pressed by the ford ST offerings and the new Clio

If I was in the market which is not likely for some years there would be a lot more to cinsider, 3 years ago the decisiln was easy

The R will have to do a lot of catching up performance wise to match the next Megane. However, judging by Renault's current form with the new Clio, that won't be too hard.
It looks like the Fiesta ST is putting the whole current hot hatch platoon to shame, offering involved driving and performance and a price that beats even the Koreans. In other words, the only true hot hatch.

I'll take a punt, but pricing between Audi S3, Mark 7 Golf R and Mark 7 GTI - PP is likely to be narrowed re: similar options:

GTI PP with SatNav and Leather - 50K.
    R with SatNav & Leather - 55K.
    Audi S3 with SatNav & Leather/Alcantara standard - 60K.

That's not including other makes. There's not much point in keeping Audi artificially high now that FBT on car leases have hit the skids. Pricing in AUS is likely to reflect pricing in the U.K. where Audi and VW sport models are closer in price.

R base price is 52k and satnav and leather are roughly 3k a piece so it will be close to $58k and that will be manual, throw in another 2 if you want DSG. Notwithstanding the aus dollar is going to hit 85 all your numbers are happy path

Think that WJ is pretty well spot on with pricing- with a pretty well fully loaded S3 at $60k, a similarly specced R will have to be less than $55k. Audi have led the way with price cuts and VW have no choice but to follow (particularly given recent self induced DSG led brand black eye).

Extra 5k( performance pack) and on roads for the fully loaded S3. I agree however VW will have to follow suit if there is a price slide. But They all ream you on the options and both the R and GTI dont come standard with Leather and Sat nav
