Funny how some people just dont get it, there is more to a car than just straight line pace. Ever driven an MX5 for example? Bloody slow but the lightweight chassis and adjustable nature of the handling is so much fun.
I have driven AWD cars from VAG that are damn quick in a straight line but bat siht boring to drive... straight line pace means nothing when it comes to fun behind the wheel through some winding roads.

My R is a dogs breakfast as a pure drivers car. Steering is disconnected from the road, it's a lard arse, its not well balanced, lacking crispness

I love it as a daily but I'm thinking the 86/brz are much better as a driving car

Well, lets see what the non track experience is.. at the price I agree they will fly out the door.. what will be interesting is how quick they hit carsales after the hype has settled down

I dont think there is any argument that at normal traffic speeds in the daily grind a Golf R is a heaps better place to be.

That is the point i was trying to make.
Sure it might be more fun on a mountain run on a sunday arvo but for the rest of the week you will be in a less responsive car in traffic with harder suspension.
With car rego's going up and people downsizing their garage numbers most people are after a car that does everything well as a daily but can also be fun on the weekend.

I am sure near redline and on the track it would be fun but i get to do that sort of thing about 1 time per month so for the rest of the time i will take the comfort and jack of all trades Tiguan.

Yeah. And the Integra Type R is widely regarded as disappointing as well :facepalm:

From the reviews and tech info, it's not as painful as a daily as some are suggesting.

Pretty damn good second car as a run about and way sexier than anything VW make.

Regarding the Tiguan, nice softroader (little small and a little soft) but not really close to good looks or handling, different market

I think it looks nice.. agree that it is slicker than the VW brand throw together, but I would be worried about parking it.. the Golf doesn't draw attention

Yeah I get what your saying but some of us love/live with the compromise to..
Years ago I had an MR2 which had quad throttles and bone jarring suspension. It was uncomfortable over bumps, not practicle at all and I had to rev it beyond 5000 rpm for anything to happen but you know what.. I bloody loved the thing because for those few good corners that I would hit each day and each time I had to overtake I had the biggest grin on my face and had that warm fuzzy feeling like a kid before christmas day. Even when I hit a harsh bump which was very uncomfortable I smiled as I knew that the compromise meant epic cornering. I have not owned a car since then that has given me that feeling or that much pleasure behind the wheel.
Itrs hard to have it all in one car but to live with compromises in order to have epic response, to some, is well worth it.
