hrm. I also work for one of the largest global organisations, one that likely supports a good portion of VW's business. It got me jack sht. One dealership gave me a corporate discount that was basically an insult, the other was no better than I would've got walking off the street in boardies and smelling like weed. Far less than 10%. I took it because I was in a hurry and needed the car by a certain date, but if I had my chance again I wouldn't even mention what company I work for.

Anyway, to be on topic, I'm nearing 3,000km on the GTI and while I would like a bit more power, I am seriously impressed with how composed it is considering it's FWD. Even with the rain the last few days, gentle throttle off the line, quickly progressing to WOT and holding it there is done with no fuss, no loss of traction. The electronic 'LSD' actually works and the traction control program is non-intrusive; when it works it does so without cutting throttle or anything annoying.

If I was going to mod the car (I'm not) it would fairly quickly overpower the fronts but the way the car comes it's just spot on. It might not be blazing fast, but paired with DSG it's a rapid point to point car. If I was going to choose between Golf R or Scirocco (aside from styling or practicality), I'd go the Golf, especially if mods were on the list. But in stock, detuned 188kW form, I think AWD is nearly redundant. My other car is FWD with big torque (nearing 500Nm) and Quaife LSD and only wet tarmac defeats it.

I'm counting on VW to release an AWD 5 cylinder rocket that can make my dreams come true.

Random question - is Rising Blue on the Golf R the same blue as the Octavia RS?

Have to disagree.. having driven both the GTI and the R AWD was the decision maker.

    No.
The blue on the Octavia RS is called "Race Blue Metallic". Whilst they're both metallic blues, they're not the same.

After nearly 1500 posts, the only reason needed on why an R is better than a GTI is that comes in Rising Blue

You don't reckon brand differentiation, niche marketing blah-de-blah, 'Quattro' nostalgia has your wettie wrapped up in 4 rings AKA RS3?

Could use the same arguement for the R/S3.

At least if there was a VW variant of the RS3, it wouldn't be so bloody overpriced. Seriously which idiot is going to pay that much for an A3 about to be replaced regardless of the drivetrain?

Cost. Volkswagen could give me what I want for under $60k, Audi can't.

Also, if I was going to go insane and pay what they're asking for an RS3, I'd want a manual gearbox.

See the following for how the Mk6 chassis copes with R power with FWD only.
