    Golf R tyre wear to steel belt

    I called my local dealer to find out why the inside of both front tyres had worn down to the steel belt without any sign of wear on the rest of the tyre. He said the Golf R and GTI have a more "aggressive camber set up" and you can expect it to happen. funny I didn't notice that information anywhere in the manual. Good thing I noticed it when I did, just after dropping my two year old off at day care... lucky we made it. As you can see there is plenty of grip left across most of the tyre so be careful and check the inside tyre wall today!

    That's never down to camber alone. The alignment is way out.

    What tyre pressure do you run in them?

    4 degrees camber... from factory????

    If purposely done (fit extra wide poking wheels), not to have such wear is not to drive it at all.

    I rotate and check my wheels / tyres at least every 3 mths in both by vw's and they both get even wear.

    lol what, the R hardly runs any negative camber from factory. That kind of wear is usually from toe being way out. And you need to keep on top of these things and check your tyre wear yourself between servicing so if anything starts looking suspicious you catch it before dangerous wear occurs.

    I had the same issue , I rotated them to the back for a while then replaced and realigned it was out a mill. The tyre place said to rotate every 10 k

    And keep your tyre pressures up around 40psi.

    I was down to the belt on mine last Thursday morning and copped an earful from the guys at the workshop . I then went and picked up a couple of Nitto Invo's on the way home and now the car is just so much more like I thought it should be, cheap too at $180 fitted so I'll just change them more often. The Dunlops were just not up there at all.
