Golf R runs rough for 2-3 secs after start

    Hi Guys,

I have an MY10 Golf R with 40000km on it, totally stock, owned since new.

For the last ~6 months I have noticed a slight 'roughness' immediately after starting the engine, it has been getting progressively worse. If it were normal it's actually quite a good sound, a bit of a cough/rumble from the exhaust, almost like it was meant to do it. However it never used to do it and I compared it to a mates R and his purrs right from start, whereas mine rumbles for 2-3 seconds.

For the last week it has progressed to the point where the car actually 'wobbles' while this happens, it's become quite noticeable, so I think its time I do something about it. Once the car has been running for 3 seconds it runs fine and has no other issues, it doesn't make any difference whether the engine is hot or cold, it always starts first time despite the rough running.

Before I take it to a mechanic I just wanted people's thoughts on what it could be, so I can go in armed with some info.

    Thanks!

    Spark plugs worn?
    Coil packs OK?

That's what I'd make sure of first...

Only really seen this with higher Ks, and is mainly due to carbon. At 40k id suspect only the pintle of the injector being overcome, I suggest you try some fuel X from bursons in your next full tank and run it through and see how you go. Im guessing all is well hot and will be all day after that??

In 5,000, based off the 40,000km remark in the first post.

Running an intake cleaner through it will mostly sort it out, along with a spirited drive afterwards.
