    Golf R ripped drivers seat

    Hey all,

Its been a long time since I posted in here. After almost 4 years of happy Golf R motoring my 2010 Golf R has incurred a ripped drivers seat which has got progressively worse. Yeah should have got to it earlier :/ See image link below

Anyone recommend a place in Geelong or anywhere in Melb that does good repairs to the stock R seat?

Damn - you've done a good job on that. You must scrape your bum (jeans/buttons/zips/belts etc) pretty hard over that bolster when getting in and out.

Might be cheaper to find another 2nd hand seat from someone who has crashed their car or swapped the cloth seats for leather.

Theres Blackmans leather in Geelong but it looks like they do leather...and leather only. Might be worth a call though to find out for sure.

Otherwise im sure that a large city like Melbourne will have no shortage of decent auto upholsterers for you to choose from - just had a quick Google and theres quite a few.

Yeah I think it caught on a jacket zipper when I was getting in or the Mrs was one day and ripped it. Then we took too long to get around to it being our main car and it deteriorated to what it is now. I've had to resort to putting some tape over it to stop it getting worse until I can get it repaired which is NOT a good look :/

Cheers. I did try one place in Geelong but they didn't have the material to match.

Not sure how much they go for but may be worth looking for a 2nd hand seat from a wreck, would also be worth asking your dealer who they use for their leather trim installs as I assume they would strip the stock trim off to install the leather kit.

Another option worth trying is getting in touch with these guys: JPM Coachworks to see whether they can source the Golf R seat material for you. They already stock the genuine tartan fabric for the GTI so you would assume they could source the Golf R fabric too.

Ok so got this reply from JPM Coachworks. No idea if the seat grey is Alcantara tho

    "Hi,

That's a tough one. We have access to a variety of OEM materials but they are not labeled for the car they were used in. I see a couple that appear to match the black portion of your seat but the shade could be slightly darker. It's tough to match up without actually holding the materials next to each other. I don't have anything that matches the grey section unless you think that might be Alcantara.

Let me know if you would like more information.

    Regards,

    Joe
    "

Any one know if the standard cloth seat grey is Alcantara for a 2010 (My11) Golf R? Would it be written down somewhere with the car manual/paperwork etc? I might have a look around tonight and see what I can find. Man this is a pain in the ass getting a ripped seat lol :/

Pretty sure the light grey material is in fact Alcantara. Doing a quick Google search for MK6 Golf R interiors reveals the word Alcantara used quite a bit.

Cheers yeah after a bit more digging around I found this R brochure pdf from 2010 that states the side bolsters are 'Alcantara'

I'm going to ask him for a quote on this trim.

Still haven't got around to getting this fixed yet. Having trouble getting the material even from Jpm who have been really slow to respond. Even Blackmans who are going to do the repair for me is not having much luck with a supplier. Anyone else know of any suppliers in Australia for the Golf R seat material?? Never thought it was gong to be this difficult! :/
