It seems clear reading the US vwvortex forums that it is not able to be manipulated with VCDS. You don't need to get your hand in there, I didn't, I just took the 2 pin cable off the actual actuator itself with a long flat bladed screwdriver (it can twist/flick the grey clip and then the connector literally falls off). I can't find the amp/control unit for it (it isn't in a nice prominent position like it is on LHD Golfs), it must be well hidden under the wiper motors or something, but as you can see on the vwgolf.net forums, I was able to take a photo (and unplug) from the actuator.

Enjoy your trolling much? Do you have anything useful to contribute? There is a considerable difference (more silence!) with it disconnected, the induction/turbo and rear burble is now far more detectable as it isn't hidden by the raspy "windscreen speaker" of the soundaktor (yes, it induces vibrations in the windscreen to make artificial engine noises). I think I can kind of see why it is there. Now it is so much quieter, it is surprising how much quicker you drive (if not looking at the speedo/tacho) due to not having the same kind of "sound feedback" you normally get under throttle.

Whats your issue man? You are opinionated, one sided, and quite often rude. I'm still waiting for your so called "negative comments" about the Remsa brake pads from the other day. Seems that if we aren't talking about cleaning products (ones that you approve of course) or Candy White paint, that you post endless useless and time wasting posts.

Page 36/37 of this pdf explains this thing: http://admin.audionlinetraining.com/...20Charging.pdf in case a troll wants to pip up and say this thing doesn't exist or something.
Here, someone put it on a switch so you can hear instantly the sound it is generating on vs off (ok, audio pickup isn't quite the same as when in a car and the thing resonating around you, but you can just make it out here): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvglicdigjc

To Lucas and the other poster

It has been discussed before, at length, on here and elsewhere, with varying levels of information accuracy

Lucas, suggest you check some of your posts, the most recent on the extended warranty. Kettle black.

Seems to be a constructive review, though the comment " The Golf R feels quick, though never quite makes it into the realm of genuinely fast" confuses me..

Missing the rawness perhaps that is often a feature of this market ?

The R, like the GTI, does lack the rawness of orher hot hatches.

I prefer it that way but I can see what they might mean ?
