A word of warning to all regarding wheel alinement and balancing as set from the VW factory... I'm aware there has been talk about this topic, in fact prior to delivery and only after reading on this forum that factory balance can be out causing excessive tire wear, I confirmed with my Dealer that they had re-balanced all four wheels.
Last week I pulled out of my office, got about 20 meters up the road and heard a god awful 'bang'... thought I had dropped my tranny. pulled over and found right front down. limped into the Bridgestone dealer across the street. They confirmed right front damaged beyond repair after only 18k!!! I checked left front and found it too was down to steel on the inside, same as right. The wear on both tires was on the inside, virtually unseen unless I went under the car or turned the wheel to inspect.
Big bucks to replace the 19" - 619 each!!!
Called dealer and was told VW would not accept responsibility. Dealer called Bridgestone and they confirmed front end alinement was out by 2.5mm, causing toeing out. Also confirmed most likely was factory setting, which of coarse it was as I hadn't hit anything.. pot hole etc.
Dealer called me back and confirmed once again that the front end was within spec and VW were not taking responsibility.
I wrote a letter to dealer principle reminding him I own 7 VW's including most recent 2012 Toraug.
Local Dealer Garry Crick, came to the party with one new tyre, I paid for second... Decent outcome from a great dealer.
My point in this diatribe is to again warn ALL that you must get wheels re-alined after first 5K.
And have to say VW has come down a notch or two regarding customer relations.

All else regarding my R still fantastic... lovin the car
    Jesus,those tyres cost a fortune.
My 19's were $200 per cornerfor the KU31's (obviously not as performance based as the bridgestones but i could run 3 sets for the same price)
At least Garry Crick played ball and payed for one.

I know the tig comes with toe/camber settings which i got checked as a pre-pickup item on delivery.
Even got a screenshot of the settings.

    Team V,
yes was considering lower cost tires as replacements but am so happy with the performance of the Dunlops, didn't want to risk it.

I was looking at upgrading my tyres to Eagle F1's or Pilot Sport 3's but the Kumho's have performed above my expectations time and time again.

I am still very happy with my Tig, although it's more like a lifted R now.

Warning!!! Post of little significance follows!!
Today I have lost my 3rd wheel center cap....wtf?? I cant work out if they are falling off when I am travelling at speed, drove to Blacktown today and did go over 140 briefly, or they are being stolen. I checked around each centre hole and there are no marks from a screw driver and no finger marks (actually may have been a good thing my wheels were dirty for a change) Easily replace but they are $30 a pop which is not the issue just an annoyance.
Has anyone else mysteriously lost a centre cap??? At this rate may need to order by the dozen!

Pretty common with plastic caps in mag wheels-different rates of expansion etc.
Lots go missing at Track days with the added heat.
Solution is to Silastic them in.Problem solved!

The R uses a little oil during the first 1000km "running in" period. Ours used 1l. Drive it a little harder and the oil consumption should stop. Now ours uses less than 1l in 15000km. It has done a few track days which hasten the running in! Give it a wood squirt in S mode now and then if it is a DSG.
