yeah - it's based on the loading... you will (or should) quickly become accustomed to the ins and outs of the box

And it's that way on the MY12's too.

Reality (at least with ours on the 1200 km yesterday) says otherwise

I've driven MY12 as well, and it was no different. Not surprising, since it's the same gearbox and software...

I've noticed it a few times, might be a clutch protection thing (i.e. you could keep the clutch in while braking, but not accelerating). Plus in auto mode it preselects a gear in advance, whereas in menual mode it can't always predict which way you'll shift. Quickest way to get a move on though is to use the kickdown switch, or you could engage sport mode (essentially the same result.)

As I said, not had the issue. Must be driving style. Shifts fast irrespective of loading

Referring to manual mode as mentioned originally (although same in D)

I drove three My11's and D mode was crap, like our GTI. Very different to ours which in D mode is in between what D and S was on our GTI

Glad I have a good one then.

No, it's not about protecting the clutch etc (well, not specifically I don't believe), as the comment originally made is that when coasting and changing down (something you may do whilst rolling up a hill etc) is when you get about a 500 to 800ms disengagement of the clutches. If you have the accelerator pedal pushed down to provide enough load, you can the "instantenous" change.

It's more about the rev matching between the gears. If you have load there, then it can match very quickly. If you have no load because you're coasting, then it needs to do a manual "double de-clutch and blip" type thing.

It's discussed in some detail in one of the VW Service Training "Self-study programme" manuals, probably #308 on the DSG 02E. But that's off the top of my head - I don't have them on me atm.

Either way - it's normal operation of the gearbox.
The way you're operating the car determines whether it occurs or not, so if you don't want it to occur, adjust your driving style.

Not sure if this is an observation, however the parking sensors have me a tad baffled, do they turn on and off by themselves.. I know I turn them off when I am in my garage as they drive me nuts and I know where the touch points are.. but not sure when they activate

You both have modified exhausts I presume?
