ok... i have a problem..my car is ridded with ants.. i have had it for 2 days now..and from the night i got home there has been ants coming out from where the front pillars meet the dash inside the car.. i have squashed about 20 of them so far but they keep coming.. tiny little things.. i have to go see the dealer tomorrow..because i want this extra "option" removed.. i dont want to be using insect killer in a brand new car so will the dealer have anything to fumigate the car or do anything as they have probably got into my car when it was on the docks? or is there any other way i can get rid of it? kinda annoying having ants all through a brand new car!

Just returned from the Blue Mountains. Awesome weekend caning it around.
Today I was fault free with the camera. Go figure!! Guess I will just call the dealer tomorrow and let them know I can't replicate the issue.

I had a flat battery on Friday pm. Car hadn't been driven for 45hours and she wouldn't turn over, just clicking noises and the trip computer had reset itself. Got out the trusty voltmeter and battery only had about 7.5 volts in it.

Put the charger on the car and 18hrs later, started it and the battery was receiving over 14v so nothing wrong with the alternator. Battery has been holding its charge over the weekend (longest break between driving has only been 18 hours though) so it doesn't seem to be a battery issue.

My only guess is that one of the electronic devices in the car didn't turn off like it was meant to (no lights left on in the car). Since the recharge all seems to be ok again...... stupid intermittent problems.

At 7.5V that battery is done. Your battery shouldn't really fall below 11.2V before damage occurs. I would be replacing that battery before the "no start" comes at the worst possible time - like in traffic. I would also identify what caused the discharge first.

    Cheers

About to pick up my R tomorrow. How do i find out if the car is a MY11 or MY10? The build date is Sep 2010. I also have the chasis number.

@ Klink1313, have you done any changes on your car which affect electronics? Changed head unit, blue tooth, anything electrical?

The reason I ask, is you can leave your headlights on with the Golf, and it's smart enough to shut them down, and systematically turn off other systems, to prevent the battery from going flat so that the car won't start. Your battery will only go flat when it's old and needs replacing.

So as DC1 said, if your battery is really that flat, either it's faulty, or there is a fault elsewhere which is draining the battery and is not in control of the car's computers as it can't shut it off.

You should be able to claim the battery under warranty if it happens again

No electricals in the car have been touched by me. Same as it came from the dealer. Will be keeping an eye on the voltage when the car sits idle for a couple of days again. If it happens again or the voltage drops below to the low 12's I will be off to the dealer.

get the battery load tested at the dealer. It will probably fail. Saves all the wondering.
