Good work but the award can only be presented once your son has his Mk1 and clear title

Is it true that MY2012 Golf R's have the ability to turn the ESP off completely? My R is set for delivery into Brisbane port in two weeks it came off the production line late May i think. This would make it a MY11.5 right?

    Improved but not off totally...

VW R models' new ESP system - Autocar.co.uk

'All 2012 model year Sciroccos and Golf GTIs and Rs built from May will be fitted with the new system and will reach showrooms from July. The new ESP set-up is a two-stage system that controls traction control and braking. Pressing the ESP off button once will disable the traction control, while holding it in for more than three seconds will fully disable both traction control and electronic braking systems.

The system will only cut back in should the driver press the brake pedal in the middle of an ‘emergency’, be it if control of the vehicle is lost by the driver or if they want the car to straighten up by itself. If the brake pedal is not depressed by the driver the ESP system will remain inactive.'

Considering that race drivers dont "emergency brake" in the middle of a corner unless they're actually in an emergency situation, I don't see any issue with that

Would be a good idea for aspirant Scirocco/R owners to hold off till their orders till they can get a car that will be built post May 2012. Esp if they intend tracking their cars.

Awesome, no issue at all. Off camber round abouts in the wet should be a hoot
I wonder if this would be available for download onto older golf r's though?

The pro drivers might find it annoying and rob them of a few seconds. But as an amateur hack, I didn't find the system intrusive at all on the track.

Apparently the tuners can remove it but won't due to liability issues. If the car comes with the option standard on the new builds, I wonder if they'd be willing to allow it in future...

The new vehicle modification scheme that the RTA is bringing in (and other states will probably follow) will make it illegal to even change your rims if it will affect the ESP system (no joke... was just looking at the proposed document 5 minutes ago ) So I doubt that tuners will be able to legally disable it even if VW make this change in the MY12 models. I think about the only hope we'd have is actually getting the MY12 "ESP" put into out MY10/11/11.5 cars. I'm not sure how you'd go about doing that though.

Don't see what difference it makes, technically the flash tune is illegal along with every other mod unless it has been engineered and emissions tested?
