In the MFD screen it always starts up on range or lt per 100. I can never get it to start on oil temp (only thing I really want to look at)
can we make it stay on oil temp?

can't wait to get mine n do the same!
I'm assuming they used a convertor, there's a lot of Audison gear on the invoice.

FYI, this install wasn't cheap when you include the labour. The Dynaudio option at order is a lot cheaper and whilst what I got is better than the Dynaudio as far as headroom and definitely bass response is concerned (I had Dynaudio in Sweden), it probably is subjective whether or not it is worth it for 80% of the listening I will do? I got my R off the showroom floor so I didn't have the option. If it already had Dynaudio I probably would have just added a sub.

It is nice to shake the car up though

Since there has been talk about the fuel efficiency lately, I shall add in mine too - filled up today, and it said I have a range of 380km. Seems a bit on the low side - hopefully it'll improve! I'm certainly not babying my new car!

    *Golf R First Service*

The R had its 15k service yesterday

Very happy with the customer service and care from Sth Yarra Volkswagen - Commercial Centre Richmond. (New site to them)

Brilliant service and very very reasonable and affordable service cost.

If anyone around Melbourne that are "closish", i highly recommend them

I assume they had no concerns with the mods/tune you have had done?

Still toying with the idea of getting an ECU remap but also a little concerned around warranty issues, having already used my warranty to get a replacement engine.

Probably more relevant for the tuning thread, but does anyone declare the ECU retune as a mod to your insurers?

How many kays have you done..? I was talking to a bloke in the gym who has one about tuning and his thoughts were that you should run it for 5 - 6 k before making your mind up. His view was that the car changes a lot in this time and you learn to drive it. I thought it was good advice from someone who had done 10K in one. I mean you have nothing to lose by waiting it out and as he put it.. how wrong could VW have really got it..?

I've done 7,000kms in around the 4 months since I got the R. It certainly has settled into my driving style and I love the way it drives.

Maybe if I hadn't been reading these forums I might never have considered getting a tune, but it does still bug me that the Aussie version gets a slight detune so I'm thinking of it more as giving back what is rightfully mine!

Also, having never owned a performance car before, I think I'm addicted to accerating off at the lights. I love the way you can surprise drivers of other cars with the R's performance, specially V8 ute drivers! I certainly gave the driver of a Holden R8 317 ute a shock the other day when I almost kept up with him - he actually slowed down to look at the car!

Depends on the insurer. Allianz won't insure any modified cars full stop, but RACV don't care as long as it would meet the roadworthy requirements, so there is no need to declare it to them.

Mine has consistently been around the 9.5 to 11 lt/100km mark for nearly 8,000 kms now. Will always get 450kms from a tank when driving around town and practicing stop light GP's, but normal commute to work and weekend driving gets me 550km a tank.

I personally feel that unless you wanted AWD for the sake of having AWD, that the Golf R as standard in Australia is a bad choice. It just doesn't have enough power and torque (especially where it's needed <2500rpm) to overcome the drive train losses and extra weight that AWD adds. Also the characteristics of the K04 gives less torque down low and more power up high compared to the K03. Already GTI Pirelli owners seem to be some of the most "mod happy" bunch - but put that K04 with the extra weight and well...

I love my Golf R. Don't get me wrong. But there is also no way I would've bought a Golf R if I weren't going to modify it. It just feels too slow and lethargic when standard.
