Current Ride: MY 16 Daytona Pearl Grey Audi S3- Performance Pack 1, Sunroof and Driver assist
In answer to a couple of questions now I'm back on:
Quattro Motors were fine, all very low key though which is fine for a stage 1 (ECU flash only). Don't remember seeing a dyno facility? They didn't know about the $100 service re-flash but made a call to APR once I told them. I went with APR because Quattro Motors are a 15 minute walk from my place, no other reason.
As far as the sound is concerned, I kept the original head unit and had the following installed:
- Dynamat extreme front & rear doors
- Focal 165KRXS woofers & tweeters in front (165KR2 were too tight)
- Focal 165V30 woofers & tweeters in rear
- Hertz ES200 sub in fibreglass enclosure (left rear storage area)
- Alpine PDX F-6 multi channel amp
- Alpine PDX M-6 mono amp (sub)
I also requested a quote for Dynaudio from another dealer but it took so long to get the quote, I went ahead with the Focals.
I went a bit over the top with the rears but I wanted to make sure I got as good as I could get without tuning etc. The install by Westside in Cannington is absolutely first class, they kept the car for 4 days, the installation of the Dynamat and the front speakers is tricky and time consuming (that is a nice way of saying that they had to do unspeakable things to my new car). I made a conscious decision not to go down to see what they were doing
The only thing that you can notice from stock is the sub in the left rear and that is only if you are familiar with the car, otherwise you would not notice. I even have a sub level dial in the small closable storage compartment to the right of the steering wheel.
The sound is fantastic, so clear and detailed. I went to my son's house, opened all the doors and played Back in Black at approx 65% volume, I can assure you the whole street heard it very clearly
I'll try and get some photos of the sub and amp installs tomorrow.
Are you running the factory RNS/RCD510 or an aftermarket HU or processing unit? afaik the head unit has no pre-amp outs and the amps you've chosen don't accept high level inputs?
Sure they do... how else would the Dynaudio cars have their own 300/600w amps?
Unless you get a different unit when you order a car with dynaudio I'd just assume the Dynaudio amps take a high level input?
All the pictures of the 510's from ebay don't appear to have pre-amp outputs.
i imagine that's what the -12db VCDS setting is.
it may be a cross between pre-outs and high level, specifically for the dynaudio amp.
it wouldn't bypass the output stage in the standard headunit though,
so it's no different to using hi level output converters.
Unless it has some other method of transporting the signal, like Canbus?
