Yeah - but the car in my avatar is much rarer than a Golf R!
How many Oettinger GTI's have you seen on the roads in this country? I've only ever seen 1 in QLD and it didn't have the quad exhaust

John aka GTI-SS aka Illektronik has a black K04'd GTI with Oettinger kit too. He lives in Sydney.

And I have seen pics of another mkV GTI in Melb posted up on one of these forums. Could possibly have been here.
So you were not alone.

Aaah yes, I've seen those pics! Yeah - I know i'm not alone, but they're still pretty rare! Probably less than 15 in the entire country.
Yeah... my one was the same body kit and exhaust - different wheels, and red.... damn I miss it!
MKV GTI FTW!
It was an anomaly and a VW like it will probably never be built again.
It was the car that engineers (a number of them ex-Ford Focus engineers) had a big say in how it was built. Hence, why production costs blew out of proportion. Now the bean counters have a firm hold of things and it shows.
Will be interesting to see who will be the first to get a bodykit for the R.....my bets on Fab_R
The add-on kit below is quite nice but terribly expensive!!

Hi,
I posted this in the Newbie section but might aswell ask it here since its more appropiate
Am from Gibraltar all the way from europe I currently drive a 2008 Honda Legend 3.5V6 SH-AWD and was looking to change to something a little more sporty but with AWD and I think the R is it... hopefully it will handle as well if not better than my legend SH-AWD, I was thinking about the EVO X but maybe its not as liveable as the Golf R, i know the golf r will not be in the same league for long distance cruising as the legend... maybe am wrong... any opinions are welcome I would like to know though does the Golf R have that "push you against the seat" acceleration? and how is the handling compared to the AWD in the legend ? any thoughts / opinions are welcome
Regard

I've driven a current generation Legend. The R is an altogether different beast in terms of power delivery - it feels much stronger on boost, but also more lethargic at low rpm. It has a much more aggressive feel than the Legend, which is very smooth (perhaps too smooth) and deceptively quick, but not so exciting.
In terms of handling, I've not thrown the Legend around much, but it did feel very grippy despite the bodyroll (which was pretty well controlled actually - better than I was expecting, and every bit as good as the Accord Euro CL9 I owned at the time).
The Legend is larger, much quieter and more cosseting - a better long-distance cruiser. But the R still does a fine job, and I'm sure you'll have no trouble getting used to it.
