So on the way home from work today (usually ~14km) I took the 55km route! lol
I spent a decent amount of time playing around with the throttle in the various DSG modes.
I've been becoming familiar with the D mode, with it's many "moods", to the amount of throttle that you can apply before you kick down a gear or two.
What I like about the M mode is that it doesn't matter HOW QUICKLY you push the pedal to 100% throttle, as long as you don't go past the resistance point at the 100% throttle position, you won't hit the physical kick down switch. It makes me wonder, in all the complaints about the DSG and how you can't accelerate without it kicking down and all that, whether most people actually know that there is a physical kick down switch BEYOND the position of 100% / WOT. Anyway - it makes it quite enjoyable once you realise where 100% is and find that resistance position, as you can then do torquey 80 to 100 acceleration in 5th, rather than powery 80 to 100 acceleration in 3rd which automatically occurs if you hit the kickdown button.
Also, after comments that Dave_R made a while back, I tried S mode whilst the cruise control was active. Doing 80km/h along a major 80km/h road, it was extremely amusing how THE MOMENT you touch the accelerator it drops a gear immediately. But that's just from the lightest of touches. Any more than a light touch and it drops two or three, depending on how far you push the accelerator... awesome
