out of interest is anyone noticing they are having to wipe the black s#@t off their tailpipes all the time? Are these things running rich or what..? I always knew when my VE SS was running too rich as it did the same thing.. tickle of the tune and wasnt a problem..
That's normal for a direct injection turbo petrol engine, you actually want them to run rich rather than lean which is not good! Also if you get someone to follow you, get them to watch for the smoke screen when you floor it! This is normal too, haven't noticed it on the R yet but MPS did it as does the wife's Jetta

When i wash the car, I wash the internals of the tail pipes also
I do the same though not sure of the VW pipes but I know someone who had a Mazda 3 MPS and the car was parked on an angle (front down) when he washed the pipes, water traveled up and fouled his O2 sensor which had to be replaced. I try and avoid spraying the pipes directly unless the rear is angled down now!

Ive so gotta get my front windows tinted after looking at this pic again

And yeah having never owned a hatch its amazing how much @#$T gets on the rear door and bumper.

With the Golfs it's a combination of the lack of mud flaps + the aerodynamics that causes the rear to get so dirty. You'll notice that if it starts raining whilst your on the highway the rear window will stay dry, up until you drive through a puddle and the tyres throw up the water spray that appears to be magnetically attracted to the rear hatch / window. Mk5 was the same.

Mine was bad as well - but I went to VW and spent $80 just for the rear mudflaps (I'm sure the Internet has them cheaper) - and the back stays cleaner for longer.

Picked up my R this morning! Daymn Kingpin Euro Plate holders don't integrate well into the front bumper. They don't follow the curvature of it.

Awesome car so far! Very easy to drive slow & fast!

QUESTION: How do you activate the left tilting mirrors when parallel parking?

I'm still out at the moment and haven't had the chance to read the manual!

I was driving home at dusk the other night and took off hard at a set of lights and noticed a cloud behind me. I assumed it was the diesel Hilux that was sitting next to me but having read that was most probably me
