I get that gist, it is more about overcoming these gear timing changes forcing folk to utilise the paddles which has me bothered. Are folk experiencing this in everday driving or utlising it in anger..

The DSG has a normal drive mode which is as eco as possible, and always maintains as high a gear as possible
Then it has a Sport mode, which is not far away from being the total opposite - very aggressive, wants to get near the red line before changing, etc.

I'm guessing most of us enthusiasts prefer something a bit more in the middle of two (some closer to either extreme), and that's why I've been using Manual mode a lot more recently, which is great. DSG works very well, so don't worry - it's just a bit different and takes some getting used to.

SFX, don't start second guessing, my friend. DSG for most of us is a new driving experience and like us all will take you some time to get use to. There are so many variants to the system, finding (knowing) the one the suits you the best in the conditions you are driving in is part of the learning curve and fun. A great man told me not to long ago to be patient, work with what I have and enjoy.....

    Tks Will,

If you can remember it wasn't so long ago you were in the midst of angst about the arrival of your new beast and I am still there. You had the luxury of being one of the first and there were known concerns, now there are more about and the experience IRL is coming online you have to start dismissing the "journalists" and listen to those who actually have them and going through the motions.

I am very patient and will enjoy but you have to admit there is a lot of chatter about the DSG and its mating with the R 2.0 engine that makes you wonder.

Yes and I've posed some questions-observastions to the forum, all answered by the generous folks here. Once I realised (was told by Ryan R) I could control the shifting, i was back on track knowing I had bought the car that best suited my wants, now, with no regrets or reservations. actually thats a lie, I wanted a z4, but didn't want to spend 135k to get what i wanted...
Voora1ZN wrote that the DGS wasn't liked because it didn't have a manual clutch. WTF? DSG gives you all that you want and more, unless of course you expected a freakin clutch pedal then you're ShiOutOfLuck...
Just got back from another day on the backroads west of the Sunshine coast. My wife took over the driving from Montville on through Witta, Woodford yadda yadda. Had to 'ask' if i could drive the last 20 minutes, LOL.... she threw it in S, haven't seen a smile on her face that big since last Saturday night, but thats another story....
remember, the chatter could be from a disgruntled Renault RS owner who has just now realised he has made the worst mistake of his life.
