Hi all,
Recently picked up my 2011 MK6 Golf R in manual after hearing people raving on about how great and punchy these cars were out of the box and having originally owned a MK4 R32, i thought I wouldn't be disappointed.
However to my surprise i was quite disappointed with the power output. Being the impatient person I am, decided to have the car flash tuned with a DNA Tuning Stage 1 aggressive tune and yes i admit there was an increase in power but nothing substantial.
Now i'm not sure if its my overly high expectations of the car or whether the car is actually down on power. Is there any way/where i can have the car evaluated to make sure there is nothing wrong with the car at its just me being overly ambitious![]()
I must add, that i did have the car inspected and as far as i'm aware there are no fault codes showing up apart for a dodgy intermittent fuel sensor where the fuel guage just drops to empty despite how much fuel is in the tank. Doubt this would be impacting the power side though.
Appreciate any insights!
Cheers
Naz

Find yourself an AWD dyno and put the car on it. Run it with the DNA tune first, then flash the ECU back to stock and run it again. The results will tell you if theres any issues with the car (you can post up the dyno results here).
When i first test drove the Mk6 R i was also disappointed - it felt very heavy and definitely slower than my previous car, a lightly modified S15 200sx. I also had DNA tune my car, and stage 1 was a noticeably improvement, but once you change the air intake and downpipe is when the car start to come alive and starts to feel fast.

Hey mate thanks for chiming in!
I was thinking of going down the dyno route to see if there any immediate issues as well. So looks like i'll try and hunt down a decent AWD dyno in Melbourne and have a couple of runs done on both tunes.
Haha well glad i wasn't the only one disappointed with the first test drive! I have owned a couple of lightly modded S15s in the past which seemed a lot more punchier. My last car an 05 STI which was running around 200AWKW and even when it was in its stock form which i'm guessing would be close to the stock figures the MK6 R would be putting out, the STI seemed a lot more powerful:S
Anyways will do the dyno runs and post up the results to see what people think!
