Very nice, that Macan Turbo specced up is a pretty decent car but serious money vs the S.

I'm not sure what dealer you're purchasing from but I know Parramatta have an allocation of just under 50 cars for 2014 delivery - I've got my name down for a Turbo if they don't go overboard on the options pricing.
Yep I wasn't willing to sacrifice any of the R's practicality or performance, and the Macan was the only one to tick all the boxes The main thing I like about porsches though is the interior cabin quality - the ambience is up there with merc e and s class, feels more like a cockpit than a cabin Drove straight from the porsche dealer to the audi dealer and sat in a Q5 and it was so cheap and plasticky and clicky and tinny that I thought I was in an old hyundai. I told my German friend that Audi is considered a luxury brand here in australia and he laughed.

Purchasing from porsche willoughby, wouldn't be surprised if the allocation is the same across all 3 syd dealers. I'm #32 but the dealer said I might advance a bit since some of the people ahead of me thought the macan was going to be $70k on-road.

Sounds like we're both waiting on the options pricing - standard equipment is very important too. If it's really good on the turbo I might get that instead. In the UK the macan S doesn't even come with normal cruise control or floor mats or satnav as standard!

I know exactly what you mean about the Q5 - we've got a 3.0 TDI at the moment which is what we're swapping for the Macan. We picked up a dealer demo model at the time so we didn't get to choose options, and I'm amazed at the lack of things that should be standard on what was the top of the line Q5 - things like sat nav for example.

The SQ5 is an improvement on the standard Q5 but the Porsche is a step up again. If the Macan is anywhere near as good as my old Cayenne Turbo I reckon it'll be a fantastic choice.

You're right about the options pricing and standard spec - the Aussie market does usually get better standard options than the rest of the world, but even in the US the Turbo doesn't come standard with keyless entry or a reversing camera which are both standard on the SQ5. Hopefully the sticker shock won't be too bad once the options pricing finally gets released.

Macan Aussie options & pricing: Porsche Car Configurator

Not too bad - my spec is the Turbo in dark blue, tow bar, thermal glass, sport chrono, heated seats, rear window sun blinds and 3-zone climate control. Options add $11,570 to the base price for a total of around $135K.

I will pass on the painted car key for $640 though.

No worries - enjoy playing the 'how expensively can I spec this car' game...

I am not shaking my head as much as I thought I would be!

S comes standard with 19" macan turbo wheels and 14-way seats (as opposed to 18" and 8-way)
I'd already made a spreadsheet with UK options pricing and filling in the AU prices, bi-xenons are also a lot cheaper than they 'should' be (of course they 'should' be standard)

Yes, LCT is a killer - adds $12K to the car I specced.

I had a quick look at the S options - I get the feeling they've dropped some things that should be standard on a $80K car (like Xenons) just to help justify the $40K difference in base price between that and the Turbo. Market positioning has always been Porsche's big issue - same reason they keep the Cayman on a choker leash so it won't steal sales from the 911.
