I dont yet have the R but in all honesty I think it is a learning issue rather than a technical one.. I mean I own a 2 litre Subaru and I mean their entire range has nothing under the 2500 and 3000 rpm and then it kicks in with a rush. Now this is known and everyone learns how to use the top of the accelerator to smooth it in.

Again it learns your style of driving and you adapt to how it operates.. if the expectation is that you get low down grunt and a linear spread then go get a v8.. problem sorted..

As much as I love seeing a RB w/Black wheels (just like mine), I gave up half way through that given the awful music (and I love The Prodigy btw) that was dubbed over at a volume way too high... better luck next time on the vid

Was just thinking this on my drive home from work last night, you adapt over time. Had my R for nearly 4 months and it's perfectly usable around town now. Plus, now that I know how it drives, even with DSG, you can still be pretty responsive when driving, not just sitting there waiting for boost.

What he said, nfi why people do that for youtube vids. its bloody annoying. Oh btw, not too smart putting up a vid of 140km/h in an industrial park with the owners name/rego on the dyno output.....

155kwatw for a stock R that's about the same as the sti my11. it probably has more than the quoted 188kw and that probably explains why the Golf R is doing 0-100km/h in the mid 5sec, DSG of course.

Thanks for that video that was awesome. And the car, impressive.. I'm stoked with the KWs, but not surprised it's quick for s stumpy somewhat heavy hatch. That explains it. And 178kw taw is awesome cause that is a legit dyno (that I'm used to) on the rollers. Old school!

That would clear 200kw's on the hub things!

Again, wish I got the black rims.. Saw the silver rims, 19s, at the motor show and was a bit meh to be honest.. But it's what I got. I probably will spray them at a wheel place in charcoal or something anyway or buy some other 19s..

I know this off topic, I used to own a MY08 Liberty 2.5 (non-turbo), it had nothing under 2500rpm and even less over 2500rpm, gutless doesn't even begin to describe it.

Well, it shouldn't be hard to sell the stock 19" rims if it comes to that, and there would be some good deals through tirerack.com at present too.
Can anyone confirm that the stud layout and size on the R is the same as other golfs? (5x112-40 Offset i think?)

5x112 PCD is correct. But offset is more like 50

    hey guys

so ive been trawling through some of the european forums re: the golf R and came across something

    heres a copy/paste job from a golf R forum

MY11 changes (Model year 2011 changes for Golf R and scirocco R)

    GOLF R
Optional multi-function display in colour. Price: R, £180
Alteration of gearshift lever for DSG.
Electronic climate control rotary dial changed to matt black.
Mute button added to optical parking system with rear-view camera.

    Scirocco R
Optional multi-function display in colour. Price: R £180
Optional new RNS 315 satellite navigation system (now DAB and Bluetooth compatible). Price £570.
Alteration of gearshift lever for DSG.
Hands free profile telephone preparation replaces rSAP telephone preparation. Price £240. Doesn’t include multifunction steering wheel. Existing orders will be built as ordered unless amended by Retailer before production is confirmed.
Optional Recaro part-leather sport seats. Price £3,230.
Electronic climate control rotary dial changed to matt black.
Week 38: Rear roof spoiler was replaced with standard Scirocco spoiler from week 38.

obviously the scirocco doesnt apply to those of us in AUS, but would anyone know if those pple who have ordered their golf R later in the year will be getting the colour MFD? because that would be pretty cool....
