Sorry for the Double post on the timing Belt..I need to know about the OBDEleven scanning for Timing Belt stretching as in can be used for Timing Chain Stretch..Is this doable and How

Timing belts snap or break apart, whereas timing chains stretch and can potentially snap but its rare.

If you are worried about the condition of your timing belt, remove the cover and give it a good visual inspection. Look for cracking and other deterioration.

Timing belts are recommended to be changed every 5-6years or 105,000km. Its about $1k to change the timing belt (parts, tensioners, water pump and labour) but if it snaps it will cost you a lot more than $1k.

Given your car is 11yrs old with 150,000km you should be currently on your 2nd timing belt and getting close to replacing it again shortly.

Need some insight on brakes on Mk6 R whether to go with DBA or offerings from FCP euro along with pads to suit.Not doing track but just street looking at Solid rotors all around .Also want some input on replacing all bushes . Any and all advice will be taken on board.Thanks to all

There is absolutely no need to look at importing a basic brake disk replacement from overseas when you can readily buy plenty of options locally. And with how heavy brake disks and pads are, you will pay a fortune in freight costs to bring in from overseas.

Have a look on Run Auto Parts who are a European parts specialist supplier. They have Pagid and Bosch brake disks for the Mk6 R. Nothing wrong at all with DBA of course and there are plenty using them, but there are other options. The Mk6 R uses 345mm vented disks on the front and 310mm vented disks on the rear.

The Bosch's are on sale which makes them quite attractive from a price point.

If you want DBA, then somewhere like Brakes Direct would be a good place to buy them from.

As for brake pads, if you just want a replacement pad then have a look at the options on Run Auto Parts or Brakes Direct. I would recommend a ceramic pad for normal street driving as they are a much cleaner pad (much less dust on your wheels) but good quality ceramic pads like Akebono Ceramic / ATE Ceramic / Brembo Ceramic are more expensive than normal replacement pads.

As for bushes, I would replace with factory bushes or in some cases, you can use bushes from the Audi TTS which has more solid bushes. Another option if you want aftermarket is Superpro or Whiteline who make polyurethane replacement bushes and control arms etc for the Golf.

dba rotors and dba xp series (light track) are very good.

can get on ebay and automotive superstore for cheaper usually than brakesdirect.

COOLANT LEVEL

I just noticed my Cold level is about 3mm below "low".


My Hot level is a little lower at 5mm.


MY handbook states that the hot level may be above the Max i.e. meaning it rises. Is the book wrong?


The gauge says the temperature is normal.
